Remember to choose an English dialect before you start writing. In Microsoft Word, set the dialect with the button in the bottom status bar.
Show your manuscript to friends or colleagues throughout the writing process. They may notice something you don’t, and save you a lot of time.
Cite, cite, cite. It’s OK to quote, but be careful to provide proper citations. Even an innocent quotation without a reference can become a big problem.
When using non-English words in English writing, they may or may not be italicized. This depends on how long the word has been used in English. For example, sushi has been used for a long time, and is typically not capitalized. A phrase like “pasar malam” should be in italics.
